A little help please....

I am finally ready to open up a store to sell my creations, but I need a little help! I have ideas spewing out of my head, but I need cute graphics! I would LOVE to be able to create my own graphics, but I think I need to take one step at a time (1-open store 2-make things for the store 3- try to figure out how in the world to create cute graphics!)

Here's how you can help! I need to find cute graphics that allow for commercial use and don't cost an arm and a leg. Where do you get your graphics?

Also another question - what is store etiquette? I created a really cool math packet (I promise I created it all on my own and didn't take anyone's idea). However, I have seen similar packets on teacher sites for sale. Does that mean I can't sell mine? What is the etiquette for creating similar works as other teachers? I know that I've seen things for sale that seem to be really close to what I've created (and gave away free on my blog) in others stores, does that mean it's ok?

Do you have a preference between teachers notebook and teachers pay teachers? What are the pros and cons?

I would greatly appreciate any and all help that you can offer! I've been trying to get a store open since last summer, but it was never a good time. Now is the time!

  1. Mrs. E,
I have the same questions, so I'm waiting to see what the veterans have to say. I just purchased some clip art on Etsy last night.

  3. There are a lot of "similar" items for sale--I don't think it means you can't sell yours. :)

I use mostly TpT because I think the interface is a little easier but at Teachers Notbook you pay $20 to open a store and then get ALL profit minus PayPal fees. I sold a packet for $4.99 and only got $2.69 of it at TpT--something to consider.

Scrappin Doodles has super cute graphics that aren't really expensive. Graphics from the Pond (a seller at TpT) has a lot of FREE graphics for use in what you sell. Good luck :)

  4. Scrappin Doodles and KPM Doodles are very inexpensive (esp. with coupon codes) ...they both have great TOU policies. I use TPT and TN for different reasons....but if I was starting out, I would start with TPT to get my footing and then expand to TN when I felt comfortable and had some success. Hope that helps!

  5. There are several big difference between TPT and Teacher's Notebook. TPT takes a commission for every sale, but they get a lot more traffic. TN doesn't take a commission, but they don't get near as much traffic, so I make less there.

    KPM Doodles and
Ginger Snaps Art are two great places. KPM mostly has supercute stuff, and you can buy her new products right on her blog for very cheap. Ginger Snaps has instructional clipart that can be hard to find.

  7. Hello. As others have mentioned, your questions are great! If it's not too much to ask, would you please consider writing a second post to share what you've found? A debriefing of sorts. Thanks!
